Summary

Drive over Jorullo Bridge, cool off at El Salto waterfall and taste local tequila in the jungle

You’ll ride an ATV or RZR through Puerto Vallarta’s lush countryside into the Sierra Madre mountains, splash around at El Salto waterfall, and cross Latin America’s longest suspension bridge—the Jorullo Bridge—with your heart pounding a bit faster than usual. Finish off with a cold drink overlooking jungle ridges and sample local tequila before heading back.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I didn’t really know what to expect from the Jorullo Bridge tour—thought it’d just be a bumpy ride and some nice views. But the first thing that hit me was the smell of wet earth as we left Puerto Vallarta behind, windows down on the shuttle, passing little fruit stands and kids waving (one had a parrot on his shoulder—no joke). Our guide, Armando, kept cracking jokes about how dusty we’d get. He wasn’t kidding. My shoes are still recovering.

Choosing between an ATV or RZR felt like picking teams in gym class—everyone sizing up which would be more fun. We went with a RZR for two (I can’t drive stick). The trail into the Sierra Madre was all twists, loose rocks pinging under the tires, and that thick green jungle pressing close. When we stopped at El Salto waterfall, I dunked my head right in—cold enough to make my teeth ache but honestly worth it after eating all that dust. Some folks just sat on rocks with their feet in the water, quiet except for birds and someone’s phone playing ranchera music softly.

The main event—the Jorullo Bridge—looked way longer than I’d pictured. Armando waved us forward (“¡Ánimo!”) and I swear my hands were sweating inside those gloves. Crossing in a RZR is wild; you feel every little sway and see straight down through the slats to the river far below. We stopped smack in the middle for photos—my friend gripped my arm so hard she left marks. It’s loud up there with engines idling and wind whistling but somehow peaceful too? Weird combo.

Afterwards, there’s this bar perched on a ridge where everyone sort of decompresses over cold drinks. The view rolls out forever—jungle, red dirt roads curling away, distant blue haze over the mountains. The tequila tasting back at base was almost an afterthought but actually pretty fun (I tried saying “reposado” with a half-decent accent; Armando laughed). I keep thinking about that bridge though—it’s one thing seeing it in pictures but another feeling your heart pound as you drive across it.
