Four hours takes you from Puerto Vallarta's Malecon (where you'll pass the city's bronze sculptures along the coast) southeast into the Cuale River valley and up into the Sierra Madre Mountains. You drive your own ATV on the popular off-roading trails, gaining elevation as the landscape shifts from colonial streets to jungle. The route is built for moderate fitness. The operator requires closed-toed shoes, sunscreen and bug spray, and asks you to arrive 15 minutes early so the group can leave on time.
At the zip-line park high in the mountains, you switch from the ATV to the cables. You slide from treetop to treetop across the jungle canopy, then take a 15-minute mule ride back up the canyon to the top. The zip lines themselves are the payoff moment: the views and sounds of the Mexican jungle surrounding you as you move between platforms. A guide leads the whole day and speaks English or Spanish.
You'll need to bring your own snacks and water. The operator does not provide meals. Bring Mexican pesos if you want to buy souvenirs or tip the guide. If you're riding solo, you book a single ATV.
