ATV & RZR mountain driving Puerto Vallarta: 4 hours
You drive the machine through mountain terrain most visitors never reach.
A 4-hour ATV or RZR driving experience in the Sierra Madre foothills near Puerto Vallarta where you pilot your own vehicle (or ride as a passenger) through terraced trails to Mirador La Joyita viewpoint, the village of Los Llanitos, and natural mountain pools. Small groups keep the pace personalized; safety equipment, tequila tasting and a meal of handmade tortillas and salsa are included. Drivers must hold a valid license; passengers aged 16+ may drive with an adult present.
Step-by-step itinerary
ATV or RZR mountain adventure
- Drive ATV or ride as passenger
- Pass through Los Llanitos village
- Visit La Joyita viewpoint
- Stop at Mexican restaurant for meal
- Return to base camp
The Experience
You arrive at the base camp in the Sierra Madre foothills and choose your machine: a single quad bike, a two-seat RZR, or a larger quad for two riders. After the guide explains the route and you gear up with helmet, goggles and bandana, you leave the traffic behind and head into mountain terrain. The first stretch climbs toward Los Llanitos, a traditional village surrounded by peaks, where the guide stops to point out the landscape and the settlement itself.
The route then pushes higher to Mirador La Joyita, a viewpoint where the Sierra Madre spreads out below you. The guide explains what you're looking at—the ridges, the valleys, the scale of the range—and you have time to take in the panorama before heading down to a Mexican restaurant nestled in the mountains. There you eat handmade tortillas and salsa, drink organic beverages, and sit in the mountain air. A tequila tasting (for those 18+) follows, then a 15-minute drive back to base camp to finish the day.
The whole experience runs 4 hours and stays in small groups, so the guide can adjust the pace and answer questions. You're not watching someone else drive; you're controlling the machine through switchbacks and terraced trails that regular tours don't reach. Natural pools along the way offer a chance to cool off before the final descent.
What’s included
- Safety equipment (helmet, goggles, bandana).
- first aid kit and landing fees.
- handmade tortillas and salsa at a mountain restaurant.

Can I drive the ATV if I've never done it before?
Drivers must present a valid driver's license and be at least 16 years old (those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). The guide covers the basics at base camp before you start, and the terrain is designed for riders of all fitness levels, so first-timers are welcome.
What exactly is Mirador La Joyita?
Mirador La Joyita is a viewpoint high in the Sierra Madre where you stop to see panoramic views of the mountain range and the valleys below. The guide explains the landscape and the geography of the region from that vantage point.
What happens at Los Llanitos?
Los Llanitos is a traditional mountain village surrounded by peaks. The route passes through it early in the tour so you see how people live in the Sierra Madre foothills, away from the coast.
Is food and drink included in the price?
The meal of handmade tortillas, salsa and organic drinks at the mountain restaurant, plus the tequila tasting (for ages 18+), are included. Hotel transportation to and from base camp is not; public transportation options are available nearby.
What's the weight limit for the vehicles?
The single quad bike has a 480-pound weight limit; the RZR has an 880-pound limit. Choose the vehicle that fits your size and comfort level.
Do I need to bring anything or wear specific clothing?
Bring a valid driver's license if you plan to drive. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dusty. Safety equipment—helmet, goggles and bandana—is provided. A first aid kit is on hand in case of minor injury.
