Climb Coba's temple at dawn, then snorkel the reef off Tulum's shore

A private full-day tour from Playa del Carmen that strings together three distinct stops: Coba's pyramid temples explored by bike before the tour buses arrive, a cenote with two cliff jumps and crystal-clear water, and an afternoon on Tulum beach with a private boat ride to the ruins and snorkeling at the reef. Hotel pickup, lunch, guide, and all gear are included. The tour runs seven to nine hours and suits any fitness level.

Step-by-step itinerary

Visit Coba, swim cenote, Tulum boat tour

  • Bike tour and climb Coba temple
  • Swim and cliff jump in cenote
  • Lunch by Coba lakeside
  • Boat tour and snorkeling at Tulum reef
  • Shopping in downtown Tulum

The experience

You start early at Coba, arriving before the crowds to climb the temples by bike or tricycle and take in the view from the top. The early timing is the whole point: the site fills up fast once the buses roll in. After exploring the ruins, you head to a private cenote nearby, where the water is clear and cold and there are two cliff jumps for anyone who wants them. Around midday you break for lunch at the lakeside: a regional all-you-can-eat buffet that fuels the rest of the day.

The afternoon shifts to Tulum. A private boat takes you out from the beach to see the temples from the water, then you snorkel at the reef with all the time you want to drift and look around. The boat is yours alone, not shared with other groups, so the pace and the stops are yours to set. Snorkeling gear is provided, and a guide stays with you the whole day, narrating in English, Spanish, French or German depending on what you need.

Transport is private throughout: a driver picks you up at your hotel in Playa del Carmen in an air-conditioned minivan and brings you back at the end. Bottled water comes with you, and the guide handles all the logistics (which temple to climb, where to jump, when to eat), so you show up and move through the day without planning it yourself.

Is this one for you?Hotel pickup from Playa del Carmen means you don't need a rental car or a way to reach the ruins on your own. The minivan collects you and handles the whole route, so you can focus on the sites instead of driving between them.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French and German.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (5 to 8 years); Child (3 to 4 years): free; Infant (under 3).

What's the Coba temple climb like, and why go by bike instead of walking?

Coba's main pyramid is tall and the site sprawls across a wide area, so a bike or tricycle lets you cover more ground and see more temples without the heat and fatigue of walking the whole thing on foot. You still climb the pyramid itself on foot to reach the top and the view.

Can I really jump off the cliffs at the cenote, or is it optional?

The cenote has two cliff jumps available, and they're marked as "for the brave ones", so yes, you can do them, but it's entirely your choice. The water is deep and clear, and the guide will show you how it works. Plenty of people swim and float without jumping.

What's included in the lunch, and are there options if I have dietary needs?

Lunch is a regional all-you-can-eat buffet served at the Coba lakeside around midday. Let the operator know about any dietary requirements when you book, and they'll make sure something works for you.

How much time do you actually spend snorkeling at Tulum, and what will I see?

The afternoon at Tulum includes a private boat ride to the ruins and snorkeling at the reef with "all the time you want to enjoy" it. The exact duration depends on conditions and what you want to do, but it's the focus of the second half of the day. You'll see the reef and marine life. The guide will have snorkeling gear ready.

Is the tour really private, or will I be grouped with other travelers?

It's a private tour throughout. You won't be mixed with other customers at any point. The minivan, the boat, the guide, and the cenote time are all yours alone or with your own group.

What time does the tour start and end, and what should I bring?

The tour runs seven to nine hours total. Hotel pickup happens in the morning (the exact time depends on your hotel's location in Playa del Carmen), and you're back by late afternoon. Bring sunscreen, a hat, a change of clothes for the water, and any medications you need. Water and snorkeling gear are provided.
