The Experience

Seven hours from pickup to return, which means you dive twice without rushing the surface interval or cutting the second site short. The guide picks the cenotes based on your experience level and how recently you've logged dives, so a newly certified diver and an advanced one don't follow the same route. You'll see the halocline — the visible boundary where fresh and salt water meet — and the rock formations that make each cenote distinct. Sunbeams penetrate the open sections of the caves, lighting passages that stay dark otherwise.

Transportation leaves from your hotel in Playa del Carmen and returns you there at the end of the day. The vehicle is air-conditioned. All SCUBA gear is provided — tanks, weights, equipment — so you travel light. Lunch happens between dives, and bottled water is available throughout. Entrance fees to each cenote are included in the rate, so there are no surprises at the gate.

You'll need your Open Water diver certification card; the guide won't take you down without it. The minimum age is 14. If you have questions about your fitness for diving or your certification level, the guide can advise before the day starts, but the operator notes that the activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy.
