The experience

You meet at 8am and drive about 45 minutes to Dos Ojos, the cenote system named for its two neighboring sinkholes that form the entrance to an extensive underground network. Your guide reviews your dive experience on the way and explains how Barbie Line and Bat Cave connect into the larger system. Once on site, you prepare your equipment and complete a full safety inspection before a detailed briefing on the two routes you'll dive.

The first dive takes you into one of the two lines: either Barbie Line with its dramatic stalactites and the light beams the route is famous for, or Bat Cave, a cavern dive beneath a dome where bats roost above the water. After surfacing and a surface interval determined by your first dive's profile, you descend into the second route. Both dives happen in water with the visibility Dos Ojos is known for, moving through crystal-clear passages and formations that make the cenote system one of the world's most sought-after dive destinations.

Between dives and after you surface for the last time, you eat a typical Mexican lunch or sandwiches depending on what's available that day. The return drive to Playa del Carmen takes you back between 2:30pm and 3pm, leaving the rest of your afternoon free. Your guide speaks English, Spanish or French, and all scuba equipment is included in the price.
