Step-by-step itinerary

Tulum ruins, cenote swim, and lunch

  • Tour Tulum Mayan ruins

The Experience

The tour starts with a 40-minute private drive from your hotel to Tulum, arriving early enough to walk the ruins without the midday heat and crowds. Your certified guide leads you through the site at your own pace, explaining the layout and history, then leaves time to browse the gift shops. The whole ruins visit takes up the morning portion of the half-day.

After Tulum, you head to one of three cenotes—your choice shapes the rest of the day. Nicte Ha is an open-air cenote built for relaxation and swimming. Jaguar offers cliff jumping and ziplining if you want more action. Taak bi Ha is a cave cenote where you can snorkel through an underground river. All three come with professional snorkeling gear, life vests, and the chance to cool off after the ruins.

Lunch happens at a jungle restaurant near the cenotes, where your guide brings you to eat. The menu runs to tacos, empanadas, and other Mexican dishes; you order one meal a la carte. Water and sodas travel with you in the van. After eating, the drive back to your hotel takes another 40 minutes.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want to see Tulum without the midday crowds and want a guide explaining the site rather than walking it alone. The private vehicle and dedicated guide mean the day moves at your pace, and the cenote swim breaks up the ruins visit instead of being a separate trip you arrange afterward.

What's the difference between the three cenotes on this tour?

Nicte Ha is an open-air cenote best for a calm swim and relaxation. Jaguar is also open-air but includes cliff jumping and ziplining for those who want more activity. Lunch at the jungle restaurant is included; you order one meal a la carte from the menu. Drinks at the restaurant are available as an add-on at checkout if you'd like them covered.

Do I need my own snorkeling gear, or is it provided?

Snorkeling gear of the highest quality is provided, including life vests. You don't need to bring your own or rent separately.

How long is the drive from my hotel to Tulum, and what about getting back?

The drive from your hotel to the ruins is approximately 40 minutes, and the return drive is the same. You're picked up and dropped off by private air-conditioned minivan, so you don't arrange your own transportation.

Can I bring children or infants on this tour?
