The experience

You pick up the keys at the adventure base in Playa del Carmen after a safety briefing and driving instructions from your guide. The fleet splits into 2-seat buggies for couples or friends and 6-seat family buggies for groups with children or anyone who prefers not to drive. Once you're behind the wheel, you spend more than 2 hours navigating winding jungle trails, muddy seasonal paths, and natural landscapes away from the crowds: the kind of terrain that demands your attention and rewards it with views most visitors never see.

A short walk through the jungle brings you to the cenote, an underground freshwater pool where you can swim and float in water so clear you see straight to the bottom. This is where the adrenaline gives way to something quieter. After you've cooled off, the tour stops at a Mayan community where empanadas and quesadillas are made fresh to order, served with fruit juice. The whole experience runs 4 to 5 hours from pickup to drop-off at your hotel.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included for selected hotels. Your exact pickup time arrives by message or SMS the day before. You'll get protective goggles, a bandana, and water during the drive. Bring a swimsuit and towel for the cenote. Children can ride in the 6-seat buggy from age 3, sitting on an adult's lap if they're infants. They cannot operate a 2-seat buggy themselves.
