The Experience

I didn’t really know what to expect when we pulled up at Migriño Beach — just this wild stretch of sand and the Pacific crashing somewhere out there. Our guide, Martín, handed me a helmet and grinned, “Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it fast.” The ATV rumbled under me (I’m not exactly a natural with engines), but after a few minutes I was following Martín’s tracks through loose sand. The wind smelled salty and sharp. Sometimes I’d catch a whiff of desert plants — dry and kind of sweet. We zipped past a group of local kids waving at us from behind some scrub. I waved back, probably looking ridiculous with my goggles askew.

The dunes were bigger than I thought — almost like little mountains made out of sugar. There was this moment where we stopped at the top and Martín pointed out to the ocean. “Whale season,” he said, nodding toward the horizon. And sure enough, something huge splashed way out there. Everyone got quiet for a second except for one guy who cheered like he’d won the lottery. I still think about that view sometimes — sun burning through haze, waves pounding below, sand everywhere.

After all that rattling around (my arms felt it), we parked near some shade for water and stories. Someone asked Martín about tequila — turns out his uncle makes it back in Jalisco. He poured us each a little cup from a bottle that looked older than me and explained how you’re supposed to sip it slow, not just shoot it back. Honestly? It tasted smoky and warm going down, nothing like what I’d tried before. Li laughed when I tried to say “salud” in Spanish — probably butchered it.

We rode back as the light started changing — everything gold and soft over Migriño Beach. My hands were dusty and my hair was full of salt but I felt lighter somehow, like I’d left something heavy behind out there on those dunes.

What’s included

Your day includes round trip transportation from your hotel, all safety equipment for riding ATVs along Migriño Beach’s dunes, water during your adventure to keep you going under that Baja sun, guidance from a local expert throughout, access to their Kids Club if you need it, plus a proper tequila tasting before heading back.
