You’ll ride an ATV through Migrino’s desert trails with a local guide, climb past ancient cacti, then hit white sand beaches by the Pacific Ocean before finishing with a tequila tasting session. Expect wild scenery, salty air, and plenty of chances to pause for photos or just let it all sink in.
I didn’t expect my shoes to fill with so much sand before we even got moving. The air in Migrino was already buzzing when our guide Raul handed me a helmet — he grinned and said, “Ready for real Baja?” I thought I was. The first stretch felt like riding straight into a sun-bleached movie set: brittle cactus, dust in my teeth, and the kind of silence you only get out here (except for the engines). Raul pointed out a cactus older than anyone’s grandparents — 200 years, he said, and I believed him because it looked like it had seen everything.
The trail kept changing under our wheels. One minute we were bouncing over rocks, then suddenly we’d hit this packed sand that made the ATVs feel almost weightless. The ocean showed up all at once — blue on blue, loud and salty-smelling. We stopped where the sand met the Pacific and everyone just stood there for a second. I tried to take a photo but honestly, it didn’t catch how bright everything felt. Alberto (another guide) laughed when I asked about the weird spiky plants by the dunes — he tried to explain their names in Spanish but I probably butchered them trying to repeat them back.
After looping back through more twisting trails (my arms are still sore), we ended up at this open-air spot for tequila tasting. It was sweet and sharp at the same time — not what I expected after all that dust. There was time to look at our ridiculous photos (helmet hair is real), use the bathroom, just hang out. I keep thinking about that moment by the water though, when everything went quiet except the surf and someone’s laugh carrying down from behind me…you know?
