The experience

The course starts with a briefing and a pool dive to get comfortable breathing underwater before you move to the reef. Most people find the adjustment takes just a few minutes: after that, the mechanics feel natural. Once you're ready, you'll descend to Manchones reef at 33 feet, then move to the Underwater Museum at 30 feet on your second dive, each site chosen to keep you within safe limits while you practice what you've learned.

All scuba equipment is provided and fitted to you. The instructor stays with you throughout both open water dives and watches your technique. The four-hour timeline includes the briefing, pool work, travel to the reef sites, and both dives, so you're not rushed through any stage. You'll get a bottle of water and a snack between dives to keep your energy up.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the deepest I'll go on this beginner dive?

The Underwater Museum dive reaches 30 feet, and Manchones reef goes to 33 feet: both shallow enough to keep you comfortable while you're learning the basics of breathing and moving underwater.

Do I need to know how to dive already?

No prior experience or certification is required. The Discover Scuba program is built for people trying diving for the first time. The instructor teaches you everything in the pool before you enter open water.

What happens if I get nervous underwater?

Your instructor stays with you the entire time and watches your comfort level. The shallow depths and the progression from pool to reef are designed so you can take your time adjusting to breathing underwater.

How long does the whole thing take?

Four hours total, from the briefing through both open water dives and the travel to the reef sites. The pace is unhurried so you're not learning under pressure.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Bring only a swimsuit and a towel. All scuba gear (tanks, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins and buoyancy control device) is included and provided by the operator.
