A 4-hour dive at MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) and Manchones reef off Isla Mujeres for certified Open Water divers and above. The underwater museum holds over 500 sculptures fixed to the seabed in shallow water (25–33 feet), designed to promote coral growth and marine habitat while functioning as a working reef. You make two tank dives with a divemaster, tanks and weights supplied, plus bottled water and fresh fruit; the National Marine Park fee is included. Meet at Squalo Adventures dive shop on Hidalgo Street at 8:30 am.

The Experience

MUSA started in 2009 as a collaboration between art and marine conservation—over 200 tons of sculptures now occupy more than 420 square meters of seabed that was barren before. The installations are made from materials that encourage coral colonization, so what you see is not static: the reef is actively building itself around the art. At 25–33 feet, the depth is shallow enough for good bottom time and light penetration, and the sculptures sit where angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish and other reef species have already moved in.

You dive with a certified divemaster who guides both dives and knows where the formations are and what tends to be living on them. The morning start at 8:30 am means you're in the water during the clearest light and before the site gets crowded. Two tanks let you explore different sections or return to a spot that caught your eye on the first dive. Tanks, weights, bottled water and fresh fruit are all provided; you bring your certification card and your own wetsuit and mask if you prefer them, though rental gear is available through the shop.

The National Marine Park fee is built into the price. Hidalgo Street is in the center of Isla Mujeres, and public transportation options are nearby if you're staying elsewhere on the island. The whole experience runs 4 hours from meeting time to return.
