You earn your PADI card in two days instead of spending a week on the full Open Water course.

A 2-day PADI Scuba Diver Certification course in Isla Mujeres combines classroom training, confined water practice and a two-tank dive in the Marine National Park. Day one covers the basics indoors. Day two you practice skills in confined water, then take a 20-minute boat ride to dive the park itself. All scuba equipment is included, and the course is taught in English or Spanish.

The experience

The course compresses what the full Open Water Certification spreads across a week, so you walk away with a working PADI card without the time commitment. Day one is classroom work: you learn the principles of scuba using a manual, videos and your instructor's guidance. Day two splits into two parts: first you practice the skills you briefed on (mask clearing, buoyancy control, alternate air-breathing and other safety drills) in confined water where your instructor can watch closely, then you board a boat for a 20-minute ride to the Marine National Park and put those skills to use on a two-tank dive.

The certification lets you scuba dive anywhere in the world afterward, as long as a PADI Professional supervises you at a local shop or resort. All gear and equipment are provided, along with water and snacks. If you decide later you want the full Open Water Certification, your instructor can walk you through completing it.

Is this one for you?The course runs in Isla Mujeres with no mention of how you get there, so check with the operator about pickup or meeting point if you're staying elsewhere on the island or arriving without a car. The two-day format fits a short window (you get certified without blocking out a full week), and the fixed schedule means you commit to both days at once.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (10 to 17 years). Under 10: they can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I do this course if I've never scuba dived before?

Yes. The Scuba Diver Certification is designed for people new to diving. Day one teaches you the basics from scratch, and day two gives you supervised practice before the open water dive, so no prior experience is needed.

What happens on the boat dive in the Marine National Park?

You and your instructor take a 20-minute boat ride to the park, then complete two scuba dives where you use the skills you practiced that morning. You explore the park under your instructor's supervision.

What's the difference between this and the PADI Open Water Certification?

This course takes two days and costs less, but it limits where you can dive. You'll always need a PADI Professional with you. Open Water Certification takes longer but lets you dive independently anywhere. Your instructor can help you upgrade later if you want.

Is there an age requirement?

Children are welcome from age 10. The course is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness.

What's included in the price?

All scuba equipment, course fees and taxes are included. You also get water and snacks during the two days.
