The water is where they live, and you enter it twice during the day, two people at a time with a certified guide in the water beside you. The guide decides when conditions allow another entry based on sea state, how many sharks are present, and your own swimming ability. There's no guarantee you'll find them (the success rate is high, but these are wild animals), and that's the whole point: you're visiting their home, not a performance.

The snorkeling itself is the core of the six-hour day. Dolphins, manta rays, and flying fish move through the same waters, so you're watching an entire ecosystem while you wait for the moment a whale shark glides past. The boat provides all snorkeling equipment, and the crew handles the logistics of finding the animals and timing your entries. Sunscreen isn't allowed in the snorkeling zone, it protects the sharks, so plan accordingly.
