The experience

The boat leaves Bartolomé marina and heads northwest toward La Cadenita reef, a 150-meter stretch where the marine show starts right away. You're sitting inside a transparent vessel, so the water surrounds you on all sides: no glass barrier between you and the turquoise sea, just a clear hull and transparent sides. The route then moves to El Farito reef, where the variety of colorful fish picks up, before finishing at La Carbonera, where you cross the entrance channel back to Isla Mujeres and return to the marina.

The 45-minute loop is short enough to fit into a morning or afternoon without eating up the whole day, and the transparency means you don't miss anything below the surface. A live guide in English or Spanish narrates the reefs and the fish you're passing over. Dock tax is included in the price, so there are no surprise fees at the marina.
