The Experience

Ever wondered what it feels like to ride a sky bike over the Pacific? I hadn’t, honestly, until we were halfway up and I could smell the salty air mixing with something dry and earthy from the dunes below. Our guide, Luis, joked that if I dropped my phone he’d “maybe” go get it—he had that kind of dry humor that makes you relax even when your legs are shaking a bit. The day started with a bumpy van ride from our hotel in Cabo San Lucas out to Migriño—just long enough for my youngest to fall asleep on my shoulder. The staff at Cactus Park greeted us with big smiles and sunscreen reminders (needed both), then got us set up for what they called the “3-in-1 adventure.”

I’m not sure which part made me laugh harder: trying to look cool on an ATV while kicking up sand, or realizing halfway through the horseback ride that my horse, Luna, only listened to Spanish commands (Luis had to shout them out for me). The beach was almost empty except for another group way off in the distance—just us, some seagulls, and this wild stretch of golden sand. The kids disappeared into their own world at the Kids Club; apparently there was face painting because my son came back looking like a very proud tiger. On the drive back to Cabo San Lucas I kept replaying bits of the day—the sound of hooves in wet sand, Luis laughing at my attempt to say “gracias” properly (I still can’t roll my r’s), even just how bright everything looked under that late afternoon sun. Not every tour sticks with you like this one did.
