The experience

The tour starts with pickup from Nairobi airport or your hotel, then drives south through the Great Rift Valley escarpment toward Maasai Mara. You arrive for lunch and an afternoon game drive the same day. The Mara occupies the first two full days: a full-day game drive on day two with picnic lunch, then a second morning before heading south toward Lake Naivasha. The reserve sits on the Tanzanian border and is part of the vast Serengeti plains. It's home to the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino) and hosts the great wildebeest migration from July to September, when more than 1.5 million animals move through in search of water and grazing.

Day three takes you from the Mara through Naivasha town to Hell's Gate National Park, where sheer cliffs, open plains and deep gorges frame the landscape. You can walk, cycle, bird watch or trek through the gorge among geysers. An afternoon boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see hippo colonies is available at extra cost. After a picnic lunch and time in the park, you settle into accommodation on the lake for the evening. Day four is a long drive south through Maasai country to Amboseli, passing Mount Kilimanjaro's backdrop and stopping for a picnic lunch en route. An afternoon game drive follows arrival. The final full day in Amboseli brings morning and afternoon game drives across the park's plains and swamps, where giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species share the landscape with the mountain looming above. Lake Amboseli lies in the western section, though it often dries outside the rainy season. On day six, an early breakfast at 7 am and pickup at 7:30 am start the drive back to Nairobi, ending the tour at the airport or your hotel.

All meals are included throughout the six days, along with water and accommodations at lodges on the route. A live guide who speaks English accompanies the full itinerary. Children are welcome from age 20. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
