The experience

The tour starts with a 7am pickup from your Nairobi hotel, then heads west through the Great Rift Valley with a picnic lunch en route. You arrive at Masai Mara in the afternoon for your first game drive. The next two days are spent entirely in the reserve: full-day drives hunting the Big Five, lions, cheetahs and the seasonal wildebeest migration. Budget tented camps with self-contained facilities are your base. Meals and game drives are included each day.

On day four, an early breakfast and optional Maasai village visit precede the drive to Lake Nakuru, where millions of flamingos and water birds gather along the shoreline. A morning game drive there shows rhinos, buffalos and over 450 bird species before you head south to Amboseli. The final two days center on Amboseli's elephant herds and the view of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings. A full day of game drives, an optional Maasai cultural tour, and a last early-morning drive before the return to Nairobi round out the experience. Picnic lunches happen in the parks.
