The experience

You get picked up from your hotel and driven to Amman's landmarks at your own pace, without the schedule of a group tour. The Citadel sits on a hill overlooking the city. The two extended options push beyond the city. Jerash, about an hour north, is one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities outside Italy: you walk through colonnaded streets, past temples and theaters, all still standing. Madaba, to the south, is known for its Byzantine mosaics, St. George's Church holds a sixth-century floor map of the Holy Land, and Mount Nebo, the site where Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land, sits nearby with views across the Jordan Valley.
