The experience

The tour runs 2 hours through the city streets in a private air-conditioned vehicle, with your driver-guide pointing out the Grand Husseini Mosque, churches, and animated markets as you drive. You start by heading up to the Amman Citadel on Jabal Al-Hussein for a viewpoint over old Amman, then descend to the Roman Theater: a 2nd-century amphitheater carved into a hillside and the most important remnant of Philadelphia, the Roman white city. The route passes Raghadan Palace, the burial place of King Hussein, before reaching downtown.

You get free time to wander the old gold and spice markets on foot, then the tour continues past the Parliament Building, the blue King Abdullah Mosque, and the Orthodox Church at the city's center. From there you move through Jabal Al-Webdeih, known for its art galleries, and into Rainbow Street in the Jabal Amman Quarter: a colorful arts and shopping area that was home to the Jordan River Foundation headquarters and the residence of King Talal. The final stretch takes you through the modern neighborhoods of Abdoun and Swefieh, with their luxury malls and private villas, or you can ask to be dropped at Galleria, Taj Mall, or Abdali Boulevard instead.
