Four hours to see Mt. Fuji from three angles: tea field, shrine, and pine grove
A private sedan tour from Shizuoka Station covers three signature spots around Shimizu in one morning: Nihondaira Plateau (green tea fields and Mt. Fuji views), Kunozan Toshogu Shrine (a national treasure built for Tokugawa Ieyasu), and Miho no Matsubara (a World Heritage pine grove on black sand beach). The tour includes private transportation, an English or French-speaking guide, and round-trip ropeway access. Starting early reduces wait times for the ropeway. The sedan fits up to two guests comfortably plus the guide.

The Experience
The sedan taxi picks you up at JR Shizuoka Station and heads straight to Nihondaira Ropeway Station. From there, a five-minute cable car ride climbs to the plateau, offering views of Suruga Bay and the Izu Peninsula on the way up. The round-trip takes about twenty minutes total, and the timing matters: an early start cuts the line. At the top, Nihondaira Yume Terrace Observatory gives you the wide view, Mt. Fuji, Shimizu Port, the Southern Alps all at once, and the Ocha Kaikan tea shop sits inside a working green tea field where you can photograph Mt. Fuji framed by the rows of tea plants if the weather holds.
From the plateau, the ropeway descends directly to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a national treasure shrine built to honor Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period. Stone steps lead up from the ropeway station to the shrine itself. The walk is part of the visit. The shrine includes Ieyasu's mausoleum and sits on a hilltop overlooking the bay. After the shrine, the sedan takes you down to Miho no Matsubara, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the coast. The pine grove and black sand beach frame Mt. Fuji from the water's edge: a different angle than the plateau view. The Miho no Matsugara Culture & Creativity Center, which opened in March 2019, covers the site's history and the Hagoromo legend, and screens a short film about Miho no Matsubara. It's useful if weather clouds the Mt. Fuji view from the beach. The sedan returns you to JR Shizuoka Station at the end.

Is this one for you?Book the sedan if you're two travelers or a couple. The space is tight for three larger passengers, and the operator recommends their van tour for groups of three. The early morning departure window is key: starting before the ropeway crowds build means more time at each stop and less standing in line.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and French.
What's the best time of day to book this tour from Shizuoka Station?
An early start cuts the wait for the Nihondaira ropeway, which fills up later in the day. The operator recommends starting as early as possible to avoid a line.
Does the tour include entry to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine and the ropeway?
Yes. Round-trip ropeway access and admission to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine are included in the tour price.
Can I get lunch during the four-hour tour?
Lunch is not included in the tour itinerary, so you'll want to eat before or after the tour, or plan a meal stop separately.
What's the walk like at Kunozan Toshogu Shrine?
After you get off the ropeway, stone steps lead up to the shrine. The operator notes that moderate physical fitness is needed for the tour overall.
How many people fit comfortably in the sedan taxi?
The sedan seats up to two guests plus the guide. While the taxi's official capacity is three guests plus a guide, the operator recommends the sedan for two or fewer to avoid cramped seating. For three larger passengers, they suggest the van taxi instead.
Will I see Mt. Fuji clearly from all three stops?
Mt. Fuji views depend on weather. The Nihondaira tea field and Miho no Matsubara beach both offer Mt. Fuji views on clear days. If clouds block the view at Miho, the Culture & Creativity Center indoors covers the site's history and heritage.
