The Experience

The tour starts at Shimizu Port and moves by sedan taxi through three stops designed around easy access. At Nihondaira Plateau, you visit the Nihondaira Yume Terrace Observatory (opened November 2018) for views of Mt. Fuji, Shimizu Port, the Izu Peninsula and the Southern Alps, then stop at Nihondaira Ocha Kaikan, a Japanese tea shop with its own green tea field where you can photograph Mt. Fuji over the rows of tea plants if conditions allow.

Ryugeji Temple, established in 1670, sits at the foot of Mount Udo with a national natural treasure tree and a view of Mt. Fuji across the valley. You'll remove your shoes to enter the main hall. The temple rests on relatively level ground and does not require climbing. From there, the taxi takes you to Miho no Matsubara, part of the Mt. Fuji World Heritage site, where the Miho no Matsugara Culture & Creativity Center (opened March 2019) shows the history of Miho and the Hagoromo legend through exhibits and a short film: useful if weather obscures the mountain view. The beach itself, with its green pine grove and black sand, offers the view the tour is built around.

The sedan taxi holds up to three passengers plus the guide, though the operator recommends this tour for up to two guests plus the guide for comfort.
