The experience

Four and a half hours covers the drive, both waterfalls and the climb. A 30-minute ride in an air-conditioned vehicle takes you into the hills to Blue Hole first, where the water sits in natural pools fed by waterfalls. You can swim, rope swing from above, or cliff dive. The choice is yours at each pool. The Blue Hole area stays relatively untouched, and the setup gives you time to move at your own pace between the water and the rocks.

Another 30 minutes by vehicle brings you to Dunn's River Falls, Jamaica's most recognized waterfall. The cascade drops over 180 feet in terraced steps, and you climb it with park guides stationed along the way to steady you on the wet stone. The water runs hard enough that the climb demands real effort and balance. At the top, vendors sell crafts and souvenirs. At the base, a white sand beach lets you cool off after the ascent.

Lunch is on your own at a local restaurant if you want to stop. The operator does not include it. When you finish, the same vehicle returns you to your hotel lobby or the cruise terminal, dropping you where the morning began.
