What’s the experience like?

The air was thick with that sweet, earthy scent you only get after a quick morning rain in Jamaica. Our driver—Andre, a local who seemed to know every shortcut—pulled up right on time outside our hotel. No waiting around for other groups or big buses; just us, our own space, and the promise of a day that felt tailor-made. As we rolled out of town, reggae played softly on the radio and Andre pointed out little fruit stalls along the road where folks sell fresh guineps and coconut water.

Dunn’s River Falls was first on our list. I’d seen photos before, but nothing really prepares you for how cool that water feels when you step in. The rocks are smooth but not slippery—Andre said it’s from years of people climbing them—and there’s this steady roar as the falls tumble down in steps. We joined hands (literally, it’s part of the fun) and made our way up, laughing every time someone got splashed by a surprise jet of water. There were guides stationed along the way who knew all the best spots to pause for photos or just catch your breath.

After drying off, we headed for Fern Gully. The road winds through what used to be a riverbed, now packed with ferns so tall they almost block out the sun. It got noticeably cooler here—like someone turned down the island heat just for us.
