The experience
You leave Montego Bay in an air-conditioned vehicle with a guide who speaks English, heading 20 minutes outside Ocho Rios into the hills of St Mary. The drive cuts through tropical rainforest on an off-the-beaten-path route to reach Blue Hole, a site most visitors to Jamaica never find. The pool sits in a river canyon surrounded by dense forest, fed by a waterfall that drops from above.
Once there, you choose how to enter the water. The cliff jump is 15 feet: high enough to feel it, low enough that most swimmers attempt it. If you'd rather not jump, easy-access shallow pools let you wade in and float in the same blue river water without climbing or diving. There's no schedule pushing you through. You spend the afternoon in and around the pools, cooling off in the current and exploring the canyon on foot.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and WiFi is on board, so you can charge devices or stay connected during the drive. Pickup is included from your Montego Bay hotel. Lunch is not part of the package, so plan to eat before you leave or bring something with you.
