The experience
The day starts with a drive from your hotel through local communities, where your guide shares stories about Jamaican history, customs and daily life. Once at Blue Hole in the hills above Ocho Rios, you spend 1 to 1.5 hours in the water doing the activities that draw people here: swimming in natural blue pools, hiking to cascading waterfalls, standing under the gushing water for a back massage, moving through an underwater cave, and choosing from cliff dives and jumps at different heights before rope swinging like Tarzan into the cool mountain water.
The second stop is Konoko Falls Park, where a guided walk takes you through native river gardens and past wildlife including birds, iguanas, crocodiles and snakes. Your guide explains the history of the Taino people who lived in Jamaica before colonization. The park sits on cascading waterfalls you can climb or simply swim beneath. Many visitors end the day with a meal at Scotchies Jerk Centre nearby, a local pit stop for jerk chicken and other Jamaican food.
Transport throughout is in an air-conditioned minivan with your guide. Pickup and drop-off at your Montego Bay hotel are included. The tour suits anyone comfortable in water and interested in both adventure and natural history, though the cliff jumps and swings are optional. You can swim and explore the caves instead.
