The experience

The tour starts with a scenic drive inland to Cool Blue Hole and Secret Falls, hidden in the mountains between Saint Ann and Saint Mary Parishes. A guide meets you there and stays for the next two hours. The Blue Hole itself is a natural mineral pool surrounded by dense rainforest, with bright blue water deep enough for jumping. You choose how to spend your time: leap off the edge into the pool, grab a Tarzan rope and swing out over the water, or swim up under the caves. A five-minute hike through the woods brings you to Secret Falls, where cascading water flows down and you can photograph it all.

After the Blue Hole, you head to the White River for the tubing portion. The currents are gentle enough that you sit back in your tube and float through the rainforest canopy, watching the scenery drift past. The river does carry you through a few class II rapids, so there is movement and splash, but nothing that demands effort. The water does the work. The whole experience runs between five and eight hours depending on your resort location and how long you linger at each stop.

Round-trip transport in an air-conditioned vehicle is included, and the operator handles all entrance fees and instruction. You choose your departure point: Grand Palladium, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Runaway Bay or Montego Bay. Children as young as eight can tube, though they must weigh under 260 pounds, and infants can join if they sit on an adult's lap during the drive.
