Cook pasta from your host's family recipes, then sit down to eat what you made.

A private pasta-making class in Ravenna held in a local's home kitchen, where you learn to shape 2–3 traditional dishes from family recipes, cook for about 2 hours, and then share the meal with your host Silvia and her boyfriend. Silvia has been a tour guide since 2000 and learned to cook from her grandmother. The class includes wine and an opening course of piadina flatbread with cheese, honey and jam. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free versions are available with advance notice.

The Experience

You'll meet Silvia at her bed and breakfast in Ravenna's city center, where she greets you with piadina: a thin Italian flatbread served with cheese, honey and jam. From there, the class moves into her home kitchen for a hands-on 2-hour lesson in making pasta or gnocchi from scratch, a traditional sauce, and dessert. Silvia learned to shape handmade pasta from her grandmother and knows how to form tagliatelle, tagliolini, strozzapreti, cappelletti and ravioli. You can ask for your preference when you book. She shares stories from her childhood while you work together, and the class is entirely in English, Italian or French depending on what suits you.

After cooking, you sit down with Silvia and her boyfriend to eat the meal you've just made. The menu shifts with the season, but typically includes fresh vegetables or salad, a pasta or gnocchi dish (such as strozzapreti with cream and sausage, or potato gnocchi with tomato and mozzarella), and tiramisù for dessert. Wine is included throughout the afternoon. If you have allergies, dietary restrictions or cooking preferences, let Silvia know at booking and she'll adjust the menu.
