Naples to Amalfi & Positano: Ferry Day Trip with Lemon Granita
Two Towns, Two Ferries, One Day on the Amalfi Coast
You board a hydrofoil in Naples and spend the day island-hopping by sea to Amalfi and Positano, with a local guide, ferry tickets, and a lemon granita tasting included. Two and a half hours in Amalfi lets you explore the Cathedral and medieval squares; two hours in Positano covers the colored buildings and beaches. You're back in Naples by evening, having seen the Amalfi Coast from the water instead of from behind a windshield.

The Experience
The ferry leaves at a time that sounds early until you realize you'll be watching the coast unfold from the water instead of sitting in a minibus. You meet your guide outside Caffè Beverello at Molo Beverello seaport in Naples, and within minutes you're on the hydrofoil heading south. The ride to Amalfi takes about an hour, and your guide talks through the history as the cliffs get taller — the Duchy of Amalfi, the medieval trade routes, the way the towns cling to the ravines. It's the kind of detail that makes the view make sense instead of just being pretty.
Amalfi arrives at 10:30am, and the first thing your guide does is hand you a lemon granita — the local thing, sharp and cold and nothing like what you'd expect from the name. Then you have two and a half hours loose in the town. The Cathedral is there if you want it, the public squares are small and walkable, and the shops sell the same linen and ceramics everywhere, but somehow it doesn't feel rushed. You're not being herded through; you're just let go to wander. Some people sit by the water. Some climb into the narrow streets. Most people take photos of the pastel buildings and the way the light hits the cliffs.
The ferry to Positano is thirty minutes and even shorter than the first one, but the view shifts — the buildings get more colorful, the beaches appear, and the whole thing feels less medieval and more like a postcard you'd actually want to keep. Two hours in Positano, and you can hit Marina Grande beach if the water's calm, or walk up to Fornillo or Arienzo if you want to stay on the rocks and watch other people swim. The town is small enough that you won't get lost and crowded enough that you don't feel alone. Your guide gives you the lay of the land and then steps back. By the time you're heading back to Naples on the final ferry, you've been on the water three times and seen two towns without ever getting into a car.

Is this one for you?A good fit if you want to see both Amalfi and Positano in one day without renting a car or navigating the coastal road. The ferry is the main event here — you spend as much time on the water as in the towns, which is what makes the whole Amalfi Coast visible instead of just two stops.
