The experience

Pickup happens between 7:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. at StarHotels Terminus in central Naples, followed by a 1.5-hour shuttle ride to the departure port in the Sorrento area. The boat then heads out along the coast, and the first real stop is Li Galli: three small islands sitting just offshore from Positano in water so clear you can see straight down. This is where you swim and snorkel. The water stays turquoise and calm enough that the stop is built around it, not squeezed in between other things.

As the boat moves along the coast, you pass Praiano, a small town wedged between the cliffs and the sea, and the Fjord of Furore, a narrow inlet where a 30-meter bridge marks the site of an annual cliff-diving championship. Amalfi itself is the main town the coast is named after, a UNESCO World Heritage site with the Cathedral of Saint Andrew at its center. You get free time to walk around, eat, or just sit in the piazza. Positano comes next, famous for its vertical layout of narrow, colorful streets and boutiques: again, free time to explore on your own pace. The Emerald Grotto is not included as a regular stop because of long waits, but you can visit it independently during your free time in either town if you want to.
