The Experience

You board a wooden gozzo at the Amalfi port at 9:40am with a prosecco toast in hand, and within minutes the coast starts to shrink behind you. The boat holds twelve people maximum, so there's room to move, and the skipper knows where the water turns that particular shade of blue that makes you stop talking. The first swim comes at Punta Campanella, a marine protected area where the water is so clear you can see the bottom without trying — about forty minutes in the water, or less if you want to stay on deck.

Then you're heading toward Capri, and the Faraglioni appear: three rock formations rising straight out of the sea, the kind of thing you've seen in photographs but that still catches you off guard when they're real and in front of you. You stop here for snorkeling, and the crew hands out snacks and water while you're in the sea. After that comes the part that makes this boat tour different from others — you actually get off the boat and spend two and a half hours on the island itself, walking the narrow streets, finding a café, sitting in a piazza.
