The experience
What makes this tour work is the private vehicle and driver who shapes the day around what you actually want to see. You're not locked into a fixed schedule or a group itinerary. Your driver picks you up from your hotel lobby or the port, and from there the stops are yours to decide. The standard route hits the Monkey Forest in Ubud, where you walk among the monkeys and tropical animals; the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, a terraced landscape built on Bali's traditional subak irrigation system; the Ubud Art Market, where you can haggle for wood statues, textiles, paintings and other handicrafts directly from the artisans; and the Tegenungan Waterfall, where you can swim in the cool water. Along the way your driver will point you toward lunch at a restaurant overlooking the rice valley.
Two stops break up the sightseeing. Uma Pakel Agro Tourism is a working coffee plantation where you can watch the traditional process of making kopi Luwak (civet coffee) and taste it afterward in the lodge while looking out over the green landscape. Celuk Village, a traditional Balinese settlement at the entrance to Gianyar Regency, is known for its gold and silver handicrafts: nearly every family here works in the trade, and you can see the workshops and buy directly. The Bali Swing, a photo stop for those who want the Instagram shot of dangling over the landscape, is also on the menu if you're interested. It requires a harness.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and the driver handles all parking. Fuel is included. Because this is a private tour, you can linger at any stop or skip one entirely if something else catches your interest. Your driver is there to accommodate that. Dropoff is at your hotel lobby or back at the port when the day ends.
