The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel or cruise port, then heads inland toward Batuan Temple, one of Bali's oldest, built in the 10th century and carved with intricate Balinese detail. From there the route passes through art villages—Celuk is known for gold and silver work, Tohpati for batik, Mas for wood carving—and you choose which ones to stop at based on what interests you. The Ubud Monkey Forest comes next, where you walk among groups of monkeys and tropical animals in a habitat that protects the species across Bali.

Lunch arrives at a restaurant overlooking the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, where you can see the hillside carved into stepped paddies and farmers working the angled fields. After eating, a visit to a coffee plantation shows how Balinese coffee is made the traditional way; you taste fresh coffee or ginger tea while looking out over the river valley, and the plantation sells its own products if you want to take some home. The route then climbs to Kintamani for the viewpoint over Mount Batur—an active volcano—and Lake Batur below, a caldera formation many travelers call one of the world's most beautiful. The final stop is Tirta Empul, the Holy Spring Temple, where the water is believed to purify the body from bad luck; you'll see why local worshippers have come here for centuries.

Your guide speaks English or Japanese throughout, and the tour runs 8 to 10 hours. Sarongs are provided so you can enter the temples respectfully. All entrance fees, fuel and parking are covered, so the only thing you arrange is when to be ready for pickup.
