The experience

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary opens the day: a lush jungle where hundreds of long-tailed macaques move through ancient temples, moss-covered statues and towering banyan trees. You walk the forest paths at your own pace, watching the monkeys in their habitat and photographing the stone carvings half-buried in vegetation. From there the route moves north to Tegalalang Rice Terraces, where the green paddies stretch across hillsides in the traditional Balinese irrigation pattern called subak: the kind of view that stops you mid-step.

Lunch happens at a local restaurant overlooking the rice fields, with countryside quiet around you. Afterward, you visit Saraswati Temple, famous for its lotus pond and intricate stone work, then Ubud Palace in the town center to see the royal residence and its Balinese architecture. A stop at Sari Timbul Art Gallery and Coffee Plantation lets you watch traditional coffee and herbal production, then taste the results in a relaxing garden setting.

The day ends at Kanto Lampo Waterfall, a hidden cascade surrounded by tropical jungle a short walk from the parking area. Water flows over layered rock formations into a shallow natural pool where you can swim and photograph the falls from underneath. Your driver handles all the navigation and timing, returning you to your hotel after the waterfall visit. The whole day runs 10 hours with air-conditioned transport between each stop.
