The experience
The day starts with a two-hour drive from your hotel to Tanjung Luar Port on Lombok's eastern coast. The port itself is the largest fish market on the island, so you'll see the working side of local maritime life before boarding. From there, the boat carries you to four separate islands over the next several hours, each one a different kind of stop.
Gili Pasir appears only at low tide: a sandbar that emerges in the middle of the sea, surrounded by clear water and coral. You'll have time for a picnic there if the timing aligns. The real snorkeling happens at Gili Petelu, a trio of small islands with vibrant coral gardens and colorful fish, and again at Gili Gambir, where the reefs are equally dense and the island itself stays largely untouched by tourism. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the guide is with you in English throughout the day.
Pink Beach, officially Tangsi Beach, is where the sand shifts from white to soft pink and coral hues, a result of crushed coral fragments mixing into the shore. It's a quieter stop for lunch and relaxation rather than water activity. Segui Beach, a seventh-mile stretch of powdery sand backed by cliffs, rounds out the route if conditions allow. The boat returns you to the port by late afternoon, and the same private transport takes you back to your hotel. Lunch and bottled water are included. Bring sunscreen and a towel.
