The experience
The tour picks you up at Lembar port and groups you with other cruise passengers: no more than ten people per van. From there you head inland to Sukarara village, the center of Lombok's traditional weaving. You'll watch local women working at their looms in traditional dress and learn the technique yourself if you want to try. The guide explains how the craft has been passed down for generations. The stop gives you time to photograph the process and the weavers at work.
Ende village comes next, where the houses are built from a mixture of clay and cow dung, a method that gives them their distinctive appearance and has kept them standing for decades. Your guide walks you through the village and explains how people live here, and if the timing works out, you might see a traditional fight. A local custom the guide can tell you about. From there you drive to Mandalika beach for a photo stop before heading to lunch at a local restaurant, where the meal is included in your tour price.
The final stop is Banyumulek village, where you watch potters and ceramicists at work using traditional methods to make the bowls, jars and vessels used in daily life across the island. The whole day runs six to seven hours from port pickup to return, timed so you're back at the ship before it departs. Transportation, entrance fees, bottled water and port taxes are all included. You'll need to bring spending money only if you want to buy something from the artisans.
