The experience

You're picked up from your hotel in Senggigi, Mataram, Kuta or Selong Belanak and driven to the boat in a private air-conditioned vehicle. The boat is yours for the day: no shared departures, no waiting for other groups. Your English-speaking guide handles the route and knows where the reefs are healthiest that day. Snorkeling equipment is provided, so you arrive with nothing but a towel.

At Gili Trawangan, the waters are clear and calm, with colorful coral gardens and tropical fish. Sea turtles show up often enough that the guide knows where to look. Gili Air sits in shallower water close to shore, so entry is easy and the reef starts near the surface. Gili Meno is known for its vibrant coral and the underwater statues you can explore while swimming alongside reef fish and turtles. Because the boat waits for you, you stay as long as the reef holds your interest, no clock ticking.

The full day runs eight hours from pickup to drop-off. Mineral water is on the boat. Bring cash if you want to eat, as meals aren't included. Optional GoPro footage of your snorkeling is available to purchase if you want the underwater shots. Tipping the guide is your choice.
