The route moves through Glodok, Jakarta's Chinatown, where you walk the traditional market alley lined with Chinese shops, fresh produce stalls and local fruits. The first major stop is Vihara Darma Yakti, the oldest Buddhist temple in Jakarta, built in 1755 by Chinese captain Oei Tjhie and painted predominantly red inside with ancient bells and drums still visible. From there you drive to a Dutch colonial bridge built in 1730, made of wood and engineered with a lever system to raise the lower side when ships passed through to the warehouse.

The route then reaches Sunda Kelapa, a 500-year-old harbour that was a vital trading link for the 15th-century kingdom of Pajajaran. You'll see traditional wooden phinisi schooners still docked and working the waters between the islands. A coffee break follows at Batavia Cafe, housed in a 200-year-old building, the second oldest in Jakarta, where you sit by the window overlooking the city hall and the colonial-era streetscape. Next is Fatahillah Square in the Old Town, the former Dutch city hall, where you watch a UNESCO-listed Indonesian shadow puppet performance. The puppets are made from buffalo skin boiled with spices, stretched paper-thin, and the wayang kulit theatre is one of Indonesia's most recognized cultural forms.

The final stretch covers the religious landmarks and national symbols: the Istiqlal Mosque, Southeast Asia's largest with capacity for 200,000 worshippers, standing directly across from the neo-Gothic Katedral Church consecrated in 1901. You then visit Merdeka Square and the Presidential Palace before ending at Monas, the 132-meter National Monument symbolizing Indonesia's independence struggle.
