Ubud Private Tour: Monkey Forest, Waterfalls & Rice Terrace
Waterfall mist, temple carvings, emerald rice paddies, and monkeys—four stops in one morning and afternoon
This private guided tour of Ubud covers four distinct stops over roughly ten hours, starting with hotel pickup and ending with return transport. You walk through Tegenungan Waterfall's jungle setting and natural pool, explore Batuan Temple's 11th-century sandstone carvings and split gates, stroll the cascading paddies of Tegalalang Rice Terrace, and visit the Monkey Forest sanctuary. The guide speaks English and explains the spiritual etiquette and traditional layouts of Balinese sacred spaces as you move through each site. Lunch is on your own; entrance fees, private transport, and a bottle of mineral water are included.

The Experience
The day starts at your hotel and moves through four distinct landscapes. Tegenungan Waterfall sits hidden in a lush jungle valley, where thousands of gallons of freshwater drop over a sheer cliff into a wide, swimmable pool below. The surrounding rocky trails and jungle canopy offer angles for photography, and you can walk down to feel the heavy mist or take a dip in the natural pool itself. From there, the guide takes you to Batuan Temple, one of Bali's oldest and most well-preserved village temples, where you'll see the grand split gates (Candi Bentar), towering thatched roofs made of dark palm fiber, and extraordinarily detailed sandstone carvings depicting ancient myths. Unlike more commercialized sites, this temple remains an active space for Hindu communal worship, and your guide walks you through the spiritual etiquette and the meaning behind the protective guardian statues.
After lunch (arranged on your own), you reach Tegalalang Rice Terrace, a UNESCO-recognized landscape shaped by Subak—Bali's centuries-old traditional irrigation system. You walk along the narrow dirt ridges between cascading paddies, watch local farmers tending their crops, and watch sunlight filter through towering coconut palms. The final stop is Monkey Forest sanctuary. The entire route is covered in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your English-speaking guide, and you return to your hotel by late afternoon.
What’s included
- Hotel pickup and return transport in a private air-conditioned vehicle.
- English-speaking local guide.
- entrance fees to all four sites.
- one bottle of mineral water.

Is this one for you?The guide speaks English throughout, so you follow the commentary and spiritual explanations at each temple and landscape without language barriers. This works well if you want cultural context and photography guidance from someone who knows the best angles and the meaning behind what you're seeing, rather than moving through the sites on your own.

What is Batuan Temple like compared to other temples in Bali?
Batuan Temple is one of Bali's oldest and most well-preserved village temples, famous for its grand split gates, towering thatched roofs made of dark palm fiber, and extraordinarily detailed sandstone carvings depicting ancient myths. Unlike more commercialized sites, it remains an active space for Hindu communal worship, giving you an intimate glimpse into traditional Balinese spiritual life rather than a tourist-focused experience.
Can I swim at Tegenungan Waterfall?
Yes, Tegenungan Waterfall has a wide, swimmable pool at the base where the water drops over the cliff. You can trek down to feel the heavy mist on your face, take a refreshing dip in the natural pool, or stay on the clifftop viewing platforms to capture photographs.
Is lunch included in this tour?
Lunch is not included and is arranged on your own during the tour. The itinerary builds in time for this around midday, between Batuan Temple and Tegalalang Rice Terrace.
What makes Tegalalang Rice Terrace special photographically?
Tegalalang Rice Terrace forms a sweeping amphitheater of emerald-green paddies shaped by Subak, Bali's traditional irrigation system. The narrow dirt ridges between cascading paddies, local farmers at work, and sunlight filtering through towering coconut palms create some of the most celebrated photographic backdrops on the island.
How long is the full tour and what time does it end?
The tour runs roughly ten hours from 8:00 AM hotel pickup to approximately 4:30 PM return to your hotel, with stops at the waterfall, temple, rice terrace, and Monkey Forest sanctuary in between.
Do I need to arrange anything before the tour starts?
Hotel pickup is included, and your English-speaking guide and private transport are arranged. You only need to plan where you'll have lunch during the midday break, as that meal is not included in the tour.
