The Experience

The day starts at your hotel with pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your English-speaking driver handles the route and timing, so you move through six major stops without navigating or deciding what comes next. Tegenungan Waterfall sits 20 meters high with green rocky walls on either side; you'll stand at the viewing point where local stalls sell food and drinks. From there the drive goes to Tirta Empul Temple, a complex built in 960 AD around a holy mountain spring where Balinese Hindus come for ritual purification—the site sits in the village of Manukaya in central Bali and carries the weight of centuries as a national cultural heritage site.

Lunch happens at a restaurant in Kintamani with views across Mount Batur and the caldera lake below. The highland area itself is the main draw: the crater spans roughly 13 square kilometers and the winding road along the lake shore gives you time to take in the scale of it. After lunch the tour moves to Tegalalang Rice Terrace, where the terraced fields slope away across a valley in three splendid formations that date back to the eighth century. The high roadside location is cool and breezy, and it's a known stop for photographs.

The afternoon covers the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in the heart of Ubud Village—a small rainforest where gray macaques roam among Hindu temples, jungle and gorge. Next is Ubud Palace, also called Puri Saren Ubud, built in the early 1800s and still the focal landmark of Ubud town. The tour ends at Ubud Art Market, where you can walk through shops selling wood and rattan handicrafts, paintings and silver items.
