The experience
Eight to ten hours lets you move through Bali's north without rushing. The day starts at Leke Leke Waterfall, a hidden spot in the Tabanan Regency about an hour north of Canggu or Ubud, then climbs toward the mountains where Lake Bratan sits. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple rises from the lake's shore: a major Hindu Shaivite temple whose water feeds irrigation systems across the entire region downstream. The Handara Iconic Gate nearby is built for photographs, framing the natural landscape behind it.
Jatiluwih is where the tour explains what you are seeing. The rice terraces follow the contours of the land against Mount Batukaru and Mount Agung, and they use the Subak system: a community-based water management method so effective that UNESCO recognized the whole cultural landscape as a World Heritage Site. You learn how this irrigation network has worked for centuries. Taman Ayun Temple, a compound of temple and garden with water features in Mengwi, was renovated in 1750 and also sits within that same UNESCO designation. The day ends at Tanah Lot Temple, which means "Land in the Sea" and sits on a large offshore rock about twenty kilometers northwest of Denpasar, shaped continuously by ocean tides.
The private vehicle means you set the pace. Stop as often as you want for photos, linger at a temple, or take time at any viewpoint. Bottled water and parking fees are covered. Your guide speaks English and travels with you the whole day.
Is this one for you?Your guide speaks English, so the commentary on Balinese agriculture, temple architecture, and the Subak water system is accessible whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or with family. The private vehicle and flexible stops suit anyone who wants to photograph at their own pace without waiting for a group schedule.

Top questions
What is the Subak system I'll see at Jatiluwih?
Subak is Bali's traditional community-based water management system that controls irrigation across the rice terraces. The method has sustained agriculture in the region for centuries and is so significant that UNESCO recognized the entire Subak cultural landscape, including the Jatiluwih terraces and Taman Ayun Temple, as a World Heritage Site.
Can I take photos at each temple, or are there restrictions?
You can photograph at all the temples on the tour. The Handara Iconic Gate is specifically designed as a photo spot, and Tanah Lot Temple's position on the offshore rock creates natural framing for images. Since you travel in a private vehicle and set your own pace, you have time to capture what you want at each stop.
How far is Tanah Lot Temple from the starting point?
Tanah Lot Temple is located about twenty kilometers northwest of Denpasar, in Tabanan. It is the final stop on the tour and sits on a large rock formation in the sea, making it one of Bali's most photographed temples.
What happens at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple?
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, also called Pura Bratan, sits on the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountains near Bedugul. The temple is a major Hindu Shaivite shrine, and the water from the lake that surrounds it supplies irrigation systems throughout the region, making it both a spiritual and practical center for Balinese water management.
