The experience
The trek starts in the Gunung Leuser ecosystem, one of Southeast Asia's oldest rainforests. Your local guide leads you through the canopy looking for orangutans, monkeys, gibbons, and hornbills while explaining the plants and animals around you. The first night you camp beside the jungle river, eating meals prepared on-site. Day two takes you deeper into the forest, following the same river and watching for wildlife in the quieter sections where animals are more active. You sleep at the same riverside camp, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest at night.
On the final day, you complete a last trek before the river tubing begins. You float downstream on a tube through the rainforest, moving with the current back toward Bukit Lawang village where the adventure ends. The whole experience is built around what you do (trekking, camping, spotting wildlife, and tubing) rather than watching from a distance. Meals are freshly prepared in the jungle, and bottled water and snacks come with you each day.
Two options are available at checkout: one includes transport from a hostel near Bukit Lawang, and the other adds transport from Medan airport plus accommodation before and after the trek. Both cover the guide, entrance fees, all meals, and the river tubing. You'll need a moderate level of fitness for the trekking. The trek is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 9 years); Infant (1 to 3 years).
What wildlife will I actually see on the trek?
Orangutans, monkeys, gibbons, and hornbills are the animals your guide will look for throughout the three days. The rainforest is home to many species, though sightings depend on the time of day and season. Your guide knows where animals are most active and will position the trek accordingly.
Where do I sleep on the two nights in the jungle?
You camp beside the jungle river both nights, in a riverside camp set up within the Gunung Leuser rainforest. The camp is your base for both days of trekking, so you don't move locations or carry heavy gear between camps.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
The tour includes entrance fees, guide, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), bottled water, snacks, river tubing, and either hostel pickup or airport transport with accommodation depending on your option. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, lightweight clothing that dries quickly, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a headlamp or flashlight for the camp.
How do I get to Bukit Lawang, and is transport included?
If you book the option with transport and accommodation, pickup from Medan airport is included, along with a night's stay before the trek begins and another after it ends. If you book the trek-only option, you arrange your own way to a hostel near Bukit Lawang, where the guide will meet you on day one.
