The tour begins with pickup from Medan airport, harbor or your city hotel, then a private car takes you to Bukit Lawang, where you stay your first night in a guesthouse. The next morning at 9 AM, you walk roughly 40 minutes to the Mount Leuser National Park entrance. From there, the guide leads you deeper into the forest—stopping to observe orangutans and other animals, learning about local trees and plants, and pausing for fresh fruit refreshments. Around 1 PM you eat a local lunch prepared in the jungle itself. After another two to three hours of walking and wildlife observation, you reach the riverside campsite by mid-afternoon, where you can swim in the river, rest, and have tea or coffee while the guides set up camp and prepare dinner.

The night at the campsite is the heart of the trek: you sleep in a tent with provided sleeping bag, mattress and mosquito net, listening to the jungle around you. The next morning, you continue trekking from the campsite, then return to Bukit Lawang by traditional rafting down the river. You spend one more night in a guesthouse in Bukit Lawang before the final day's checkout at 1 PM, when the private car transports you back to Medan city or the airport.

The guide is certified and speaks English throughout, so you understand what you are seeing and can ask about the animals, plants and the forest itself. Water, tea, coffee and snacks are provided three times across the trek days; camping equipment—tent, sleeping bag, mattress, mosquito net—is supplied. The trek requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The walk to the park takes roughly 40 minutes, then you trek for several hours each day with stops for rest, observation and meals.
