A 2-day jungle trek in Gunung Leuser National Park near Bukit Lawang where you hike with certified guides, camp overnight by a river, and return by tubing the Bohorok River. The experience

The trek starts at 9 a.m. from Bukit Lawang and heads straight into Gunung Leuser National Park with a guide and assistant both certified by the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association. You move through the rainforest looking for eight monkey species (the Sumatran orangutan, long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, siamangs and slow lorises) watching them in their natural habitat rather than behind glass. The first day ends at a campsite pitched near a river or waterfall, where you swim, eat dinner and play games before sleeping in a tent with a mattress, blanket and mosquito net.

On day two you push deeper into the forest where the rarer bird species live (the great argus, rhinoceros hornbill and others), then trade the trail for the Bohorok River. You tube back to Bukit Lawang on oversize rubber rings, floating through jungle views with a rafting captain and porter managing the equipment. Breakfast, lunch both days, dinner, coffee and tea come with the trek. Bottled water and fruit breaks keep you going between meals. All entrance permits are included in the price.
