Solo Women’s Guided Jaipur City Tour: Forts, Palaces & Hidden Gems

If you want to see Jaipur through local eyes—and feel safe doing it solo—this tour covers all the highlights with an experienced female guide by your side. You’ll explore forts, palaces, stepwells and more at your own pace, with plenty of chances for photos and stories you won’t find in any brochure.

experience

What’s the experience like?

It was just after 8 when I met my guide outside the hotel—she greeted me with a warm smile and a quick rundown of our day. The city was already buzzing, but our first stop, Amer Fort, sat quietly above the morning haze. We wandered through its courtyards, tracing cool marble underfoot and pausing at the Mirror Palace. The light bounced off thousands of tiny mirrors—our guide explained they came from Belgium centuries ago. You could almost hear echoes of old royal processions in those long corridors.

A short drive took us to Panna Meena ka Kund. The stepwell’s zigzag stairs looked like something out of a puzzle. Locals say it’s best to visit before noon—the sun hits the water just right then, making the steps glow golden. We watched a few kids skipping stones while our guide shared stories about religious gatherings here in the past.

On the way back toward Jaipur, we pulled over at Jal Mahal—the Water Palace. It floats in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, and though you can’t go inside, it’s perfect for photos (especially if you catch a street vendor selling masala chai nearby). The air smelled faintly of wet stone and cardamom.

Next up was Royal Gaitor—a peaceful spot where Jaipur’s kings were cremated. Marble cenotaphs stood quietly among red sandstone arches. Our guide pointed out intricate carvings that most people miss if they’re rushing through.

The Hawa Mahal came into view as we entered the heart of the Pink City. From the street, it looks more like an ornate screen than a palace—hundreds of tiny windows where royal women once watched festivals without being seen themselves. I snapped some photos; honestly, it’s hard not to.

We drove just five minutes to City Palace next. Part of it is still home to Jaipur’s royal family—our guide knew exactly which courtyards were open for visitors and which ones are off-limits (she joked about getting lost there once as a kid). Mubarak Mahal had displays of old textiles and weapons; you could almost picture life here three centuries ago.

Last stop: Jantar Mantar Observatory. Giant stone instruments stood silent in the afternoon sun—still working after 300 years! Our guide explained how Maharaja Jai Singh built five observatories across India; this one’s a UNESCO site since 2010. If you’re into astronomy or just curious about how people measured time before watches, it’s worth lingering here.
