The experience

A private open jeep picks you up from your hotel and takes you straight to Nahargarh Fort, perched on the edge of the Aravalli hills. The fort sits high enough to frame the whole city, and you arrive as the sun sets and the floodlights come on across Jaipur below. From there, the jeep moves through the city to Jal Mahal, the water palace in Man Sagar lake, where the illuminated structure reflects off the water. You stop to walk the edge and photograph it, then continue to Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, which glows pale and intricate under lights.

The guide is a local English speaker who sets the pace. You're not locked into a group schedule. Bottled water, cookies, snacks and soft drinks come with you in the jeep. The route includes roadside views of the monuments except for the time you spend at Nahargarh Fort itself, where you stand and look out.
