The experience

You're picked up from your hotel and driven in a private air-conditioned car to start the first day at Panna Meena Stepwell, then move through the city's major sights: Jal Mahal, a red sandstone palace reflected in water (viewable from the roadside); City Palace, a sprawling complex of courtyards and pavilions still partly in use; Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century astronomical observation site with instruments designed for specific celestial purposes; and Hawa Mahal, the five-story pink sandstone structure with delicate balconies and carved patterns. You'll also visit Swargasuli Tower, which blends Rajasthani and Mughal styles, and taste lassi at a local shop known for the drink. A Krishna temple dating to the 16th century rounds out the first day's route.

Day two focuses on quieter sites and the city after dark. Albert Hall Museum holds intricate carvings, lattice work and stained glass. Royal Gaitor is a cenotaph complex with its own architectural character. The day builds toward Nahargarh Fort, which sits above the city and offers views across Jaipur's landscape. As the sun sets, the fort's floodlights come on, and the drive back takes you past the illuminated Water Palace and Albert Hall, both lit for the evening. A walking tour through the Old City's hand-block printing workshops lets you create a small textile piece to take home. The guide handles logistics (timing, entry queues, which stops fit the day), so the two days hold together without you building the itinerary.

Your guide speaks English and knows the history and layout of each site. The car includes bottled water, snacks, soft drinks and cookies. Children under 17 travel free except for monument entry tickets, which you purchase on arrival with the guide's help to skip the line.
