The experience

You're picked up from your hotel or airport in a private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver, who handles all the driving while you take in the city. The route covers five major heritage sites across Jaipur, each one a different chapter of the city's history. Hawa Mahal, the five-story pink structure that leans at 87 degrees, has stood for centuries without a foundation: its 953 small windows were designed so royal women could watch street life below without being seen. City Palace, built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the 1700s, still houses the ruling royal family in its private quarters, and its architecture blends Mughal and Rajput styles in a single complex.

Jantar Mantar is a working astronomical observatory made of 19 carved stone instruments, including the Vrihat Smarat Yantra, a massive sundial at its center that tracks the position and size of stars and planets. Royal Gaitor holds the cenotaphs of past rulers, spread across grounds that look like a collection of reduced palaces and detailed towers: the burial site of the Kachwaha dynasty who governed the region. Jal Mahal, built around 1699 and expanded in the early 1700s, sits in the middle of Man Sagar Lake and was designed as a royal retreat. The day also takes you through the walled Pink City itself, where you walk past historical buildings, bazaars and local markets, and includes Panna Meena ka Kund, an eight-story stepwell with 1800 symmetrical steps carved in the 16th century.

The full day runs eight hours. Bottled water, fuel, parking and all taxes are included. The driver's fee is built into the price. You'll need to budget separately for monument entry fees (approximately 2,000 INR across all sites) and any meals along the way.

Top questions

What is Hawa Mahal and why is it famous in Jaipur?

Hawa Mahal is a five-story pink structure that holds the distinction of being the tallest building globally constructed without a foundation. Its unique curved architecture leans at an angle of 87 degrees and has remained standing for centuries. The 953 small windows provide outstanding views of the city and were historically designed so royal women could observe street life without being seen from outside.

Can I actually enter City Palace, or do I only see it from outside?

City Palace is a working royal residence: the last ruling royal family still inhabits a private area of the palace. The tour includes access to the palace complex, which blends Mughal and Rajput architectural styles and was designed by the city's founder, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in the early 1700s.

What exactly is Jantar Mantar and how is it used?

Jantar Mantar is a scientific complex made up of 19 carved stone tools designed to track the location and sizes of stars and planets. Each tool features unique geometric patterns, and the Vrihat Smarat Yantra (a massive sundial at the heart of the complex) is still used to observe celestial movements. It is one of the oldest working astronomical observatories in the world.

How far is Amer from Jaipur city center, and what will I see there?

Amer is a quaint town situated 11 km from Jaipur's city center. The tour includes time to explore its rich cultural heritage, interact with locals, and visit historical sites including the Jagat Shiromani Temple, which is dedicated to Meera Bai, Krishna and Vishnu and sits near the Amer fort.

What is Panna Meena ka Kund?

Panna Meena ka Kund is a magnificent stepwell with eight stories and 1,800 symmetrical steps, reaching a depth of 200 feet. It was constructed in the 16th century and showcases the remarkable engineering skills of that era, with its geometric design still intact.
