The experience
You're picked up from your hotel and driven in an air-conditioned car to Amer Fort, a red sandstone and white marble fortress sitting on the rugged hills outside town. The blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture is what makes it stand out from other palace ruins in India. From there the route takes you to Hawa Mahal, the five-story Palace of Winds in the heart of the Pink City. The carved pink facade is the landmark most visitors recognize from photographs. The driver then heads to Jal Mahal, the 18th-century water palace floating in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, where you stop to take in the view from the shore.
The morning wraps with Jantar Mantar, the UNESCO World Heritage observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It holds the world's largest stone sundial and is still used for astronomical observation today. City Palace comes next, a working royal residence with separated gardens and courtyards spread across a large area. You'll also visit Royal Gaitor, the marble and sandstone cenotaphs of Jaipur's former rulers nestled at the foothills of Nahargarh Fort: a quieter site than the main landmarks. The afternoon is yours to spend in Jaipur's markets, where you can browse gemstones, silver jewelry, bangles, textiles and blue pottery.
The car and driver stay with you for the full eight hours. Bottled water is provided, and all fuel, parking and taxes are covered. You choose at checkout whether you want the driver alone, a driver plus guide, or a guide with lunch and entry tickets included: the guide option adds context at each stop and handles monument entries if you select it.
