The experience

Your driver meets you at your hotel, airport or station in the morning and drives you through Jodhpur to Mehrangarh Fort, the 15th-century sandstone stronghold that dominates the city skyline. You spend 2–3 hours exploring the fort's palaces, courtyards and museum, learning the history of the Rajput rulers who built it. From there, a short drive takes you to Jaswant Thada, the white marble cenotaph set in a garden, where you have an hour to walk the grounds and see the intricate carvings. The third stop is Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum, a 20th-century palace now a heritage hotel, which you visit for about an hour.

After the city monuments, you drive 60 km south to Osian in the Thar Desert. Here you mount a camel and ride for 30–40 minutes as the sun drops toward the horizon, the desert floor shifting beneath you and the light turning gold across the sand. This is not a rushed photo stop. It is a slow, open-air passage through the landscape that locals have crossed for centuries. When the ride ends and the sun is down, your driver returns you to your hotel, airport or station in Jodhpur.

The tour runs 10 hours door to door. You travel in an air-conditioned private vehicle with an English-speaking driver. The guide who accompanies you at the city sites speaks English as well. Entrance fees to the fort, cenotaph and palace museum are not included in the price and are paid on-site. Food and drinks are your own arrangement.
